Treks and walks
From village trails to the Goecha La
You do not need to be a mountaineer to walk here. Many of the best days are half-day trails between villages, through tea gardens or up to a monastery, with a car to meet you at the end. The longer treks, Sandakphu and Goecha La, need a few days of fitness work beforehand.
Trekking in Singalila National Park and in Kangchenjunga National Park needs permits and, in most cases, a registered guide. Spring (April–May) brings rhododendrons and autumn (October–November) brings clear views. Check current status before you travel.
