West Bengal Tourism's lodge in Kurseong, on Hill Cart Road where the toy train runs past. Simple rooms at government rates, a restaurant, and valley views. A practical, cheap base for Makaibari, Netaji's house at Giddapahar and Dow Hill.

The Kurseong Tourist Lodge, now listed by WBTDCL as the Kurseong Tourism Property, is one of the cheapest clean beds in the hills. It sits on Hill Cart Road, the old highway that the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway shares through Kurseong, so you can watch the toy train pass. On clear days the rooms and terrace look south over the plains and the tea slopes below.

Listed rates were around ₹1,900–2,200 a night at our last check, which makes it a sensible stop for a first night in the hills or a break between Siliguri and Darjeeling. The restaurant does simple Indian and Chinese meals. Rooms are plain and the building is old, so treat it as a base, not a treat. Book on the WBTDCL website and check current status before you travel.

Why we like it

  • Among the lowest rates for a clean room in the hills
  • On the toy-train line, close to Kurseong station
  • Good base for Makaibari, Giddapahar and Dow Hill

Watch out for

Road and train noise on Hill Cart Road by day, and furnishings are plain and dated.

Questions people ask

Good to know

Is the Kurseong tourist lodge worth it

For the price, yes. At roughly ₹1,900–2,800 a room night, indicative 2026, it is one of the cheapest clean options in the Darjeeling hills, with a restaurant and valley views. Rooms are plain and the road outside is busy by day. It suits travellers who want a cheap base for Makaibari, Netaji's house and Dow Hill rather than a hotel to linger in.

How far is Kurseong tourist lodge from the railway station

It is on Hill Cart Road, a short walk from Kurseong station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The toy train runs along the same road through town, so you can see it pass. Shared jeeps to Darjeeling and Siliguri leave from the stands in the town centre, also within walking distance.

Can I book Kurseong WBTDC lodge online

Yes, on the official WBTDCL website, where it appears as the Kurseong Tourism Property, or at the West Bengal Tourism office on BBD Bag in Kolkata. Bookings open up to about 180 days ahead. Carry the photo ID you used for the booking, and check current rates before you travel.
