Festivals

Losar, tshechus, Dashain and Pang Lhabsol

Masked dances at Bhutan's tshechus, Losar in the monasteries, Pang Lhabsol at Ravangla, Bumchu at Tashiding and Dashain and Tihar across the Gorkha hills. Most follow the lunar calendar, so we confirm dates each year before we build the route.

The festival calendar here is lunar and Tibetan, so dates move by several weeks from one year to the next. Bhutan publishes its tshechu dates in advance; monastery festivals in Sikkim are announced closer to the time.

Festivals fill rooms. For Paro and Thimphu tshechus, the October Puja holidays and the Dashain fortnight, book stays two to three months ahead. Check current status before you travel.
