Taj Guras Kutir opened in September 2023 in Pangthang, a forested ridge about 6 km and 20 minutes above Gangtok. Guras is the Nepali word for rhododendron, Sikkim's state tree. The resort has 69 rooms and suites spread across 14 acres, with views across to the Kangchenjunga range when the sky is clear, and a design that borrows from Sikkimese architecture and craft.
It is the quietest of the premium options: no traffic, cool forest air and a spa, which suits couples and anyone resting between long drives to Tsomgo, Nathu La or North Sikkim. Pangthang is also close to the edge of the Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary. The drawback is cost and distance: every visit to MG Marg needs a car, and prices for meals reflect the brand.
