A three-storey hotel inside the Temi tea estate, built by the state tourism corporation as the Yatri Niwas and now run privately on lease. Rooms look over the tea slopes and the Teesta gorge, and Himalayan cherry trees line the approach road.

There are not many places in Sikkim where you can wake up in the middle of a working tea garden. Cherry Resort is one of them. The building belongs to the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation and was once its Yatri Niwas; it is now leased out and run privately under the name taken from the Himalayan cherry trees that flower along the drive from November.

Most rooms face the estate, with pickers on the slopes in the morning during the flush seasons and Kangchenjunga on the skyline on clear winter days. It is a calm base for a slow day: a walk through the garden, a visit to the factory gate for fresh Temi tea, and an easy drive to Namchi or Ravangla. Evenings are very quiet, so bring a book; dinner is served in the hotel's own dining room.

Why we like it

  • Inside the Temi tea estate, with garden walks from the door
  • Cherry blossom on the approach road in November
  • Central for Namchi, Ravangla and the Tendong area

Watch out for

It is a government-built block rather than a heritage bungalow, the finish can feel dated, and evening food choices are limited to the in-house kitchen.

Questions people ask

Good to know

Is Cherry Resort inside the Temi Tea Garden

Yes. It stands on the slopes of the Temi estate, the Sikkim government's tea garden set up in 1969, so the tea bushes start right outside. You can walk the estate roads in the morning and buy packets of Temi tea at the outlet near the factory. Ask at reception about the day's factory timings.

When do the cherry trees flower at Temi

The Himalayan cherry that lines the approach road flowers in late autumn, usually through November, which is unusual for a cherry and a good reason to plan a Sikkim trip that month. Clear skies in November also give the best chance of seeing Kangchenjunga from the estate. Exact bloom weeks shift a little each year.

How far is Cherry Resort from Namchi and Ravangla

Both are close: Namchi is roughly 16–20 km and Ravangla about the same, each 45 minutes to an hour by road. That makes the resort a good middle base for a South Sikkim loop of Samdruptse, Char Dham, the Buddha Park and Ralang. Gangtok is around 60 km away, about two and a half hours.
