North Sikkim · tour package Nº 93809
North Sikkim honeymoon in 6 nights
Couples tell us the same thing after a standard North Sikkim package: they saw everything and remember mostly the car. This plan keeps the two big sights, Gurudongmar Lake at 5,430 m and Yumthang in the Shingba sanctuary, and adds the one thing honeymooners want most: time with nothing scheduled. The second night in Lachung gives you a morning in the valley and an afternoon to walk the village lanes. The two Gangtok nights at the end protect your flight and give you an evening on MG Marg without checking the clock.
Be clear about the hard day. Gurudongmar means leaving Lachen at about 4 am and climbing to 5,430 m, then descending to Lachung the same day. Healthy couples manage it with care. Lachen reopened to tourists only in 2026 after the October 2023 flood, and roads on both sides still close after rain or snow, so we treat Lachen as a planned stop with a Lachung-only fallback. Foreign nationals cannot go to Gurudongmar and turn at Thangu. Check current status before you travel.

Day by day
The timetable
- Day1
Siliguri to Gangtok
Your private car meets you at Bagdogra or NJP and drives up NH10 along the Teesta into Sikkim at Rangpo. Check in by mid-afternoon. Your operator needs your ID copies and photographs today for the Lachen and Lachung permit, which is filed in advance; same-day permits are not issued. Walk MG Marg in the evening, buy gloves and a woollen cap if you forgot them, and eat early. No alcohol for the next three nights; it makes altitude harder on the body.
- Day2
Gangtok to Lachen
Leave Gangtok by about 10 am with permits. Stop at Kabi Lungchok and the Seven Sisters Waterfall, then Mangan, the Toong checkpost and Chungthang, where the Lachen and Lachung rivers join. Lunch in Chungthang, where a rock is linked by Buddhist tradition to Guru Rinpoche. The road up the Lachen valley crosses the new Taram Chu bridge, built after the flood. Reach Lachen, about 2,750 m, by dusk. Fill your bottles from the hotel filter: Lachen's Dzumsa banned packaged water here in 2012.
- Day3
Gurudongmar at dawn, then Lachung
Leave at 4–5 am wrapped in every layer you have. Stop at Thangu, about 3,900 m, for tea and the army check, and be honest with each other about headaches. Cross the plateau to Gurudongmar Lake, 5,430 m, sacred to Buddhists and linked by legend to Guru Padmasambhava. Twenty to thirty minutes at the shore, walking slowly, is enough. Back to Lachen for lunch, then down to Chungthang and up to Lachung, about 2,700 m, by late afternoon. Anyone with severe headache, vomiting or confusion goes down at once.
- Day4
Yumthang and a free afternoon
Sleep in a little after yesterday, and leave at about 7 am for Yumthang, 24 km away at 3,564 m, through the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. Snow from December to March, flowers in late April and May, open meadow and yaks in autumn. Visit the hot spring sheds by the river. Zero Point, about 4,660 m, is optional at ₹3,000–4,500 per vehicle, indicative 2026, and only if you both feel completely well. Back by lunch. The afternoon is yours: the village lanes, the 1880 Lachung Monastery above town, or the room and the view.
- Day5
Lachung to Gangtok
A late breakfast, then leave by about 10 am so the car crosses the Toong checkpost before 4 pm, as the September 2026 order requires. Lunch at Chungthang or Mangan, with a stop at Singhik for Kanchenjunga if the sky is clear. Reach Gangtok by evening. Check in, take a hot shower, and have dinner somewhere quiet off MG Marg. If a slide delayed you in Lachung, this is the day that absorbs it. Check current status before you travel.
- Day6
A slow day in Gangtok
Nothing before 9 am. Then, if you want, a half-day car tour for about ₹1,800–3,500, indicative 2026: Enchey Monastery, rebuilt in 1909, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Do Drul Chorten and Hanuman Tok for Kanchenjunga. Or ride the Gangtok ropeway over the town, or walk Ridge Park near the old palace gate, best in March and April when the trees flower. Couples with energy can swap today for Tsomgo Lake on a separate permit at extra cost. Spend the evening on MG Marg, a car-free street of about 1 km.
- Day7
Gangtok to Siliguri
Breakfast, then leave Gangtok by 8–9 am. The road drops along the Teesta past Rangpo and Sevoke to the plains. Allow at least five hours for Bagdogra or NJP, more after rain, because NH10 jams at Rangpo and Sevoke and slides near Melli can force a detour via Kalimpong. Book flights or trains after 2 pm, or after 4 pm in the wet months. Check current status before you travel.

Questions people ask
About this package
Is North Sikkim good for a honeymoon
Yes, if you like mountains more than shopping. You get snow or flowers at Yumthang, Gurudongmar Lake at 5,430 m and quiet villages with very few cars after dark. Rooms are simpler than in Gangtok or Darjeeling, except for a few places such as Yarlam in Lachung. The long drives and the 4 am Gurudongmar start are the price; our two Lachung nights soften both.
How much does a 6-night North Sikkim honeymoon cost
From about ₹19,500 per person twin sharing on budget, ₹33,000 on comfort and ₹62,000 on premium, from Siliguri, indicative 2026. All tiers use a private car. Prices rise in May, Puja week and New Year. Zero Point is extra except on premium, and spa treatments are always extra.
Which is the best hotel in Lachung for couples
Yarlam Resort is widely described as the most upscale hotel in Lachung, with a spa, a guests-only restaurant and rooms looking over the valley; it sits above the village, so you rely on the car to go out. Le Coxy Resort is a comfortable mid-range choice with heated mattresses. Bichu Homestay is simple, warm and family-run. Confirm heating in writing in winter.
Is Gurudongmar safe for a honeymoon couple
For healthy adults who follow the rules, generally yes. Sleep a night in Lachen first, drink water, avoid alcohol, walk slowly and keep to 20–30 minutes at the lake. Headache and breathlessness are common; severe headache, vomiting or confusion mean going down at once. If either of you is pregnant or has a heart, lung or blood-pressure condition, skip the lake and see a doctor.
Can we skip Gurudongmar and stay longer in Lachung
Yes. Many couples prefer three nights in Lachung, with Yumthang one day and a free day or Zero Point the next, and no 4 am start. The price falls slightly because Lachen drops out. It is also our fallback if the Lachen road is closed. Tell us when you book, and we will file the permit for Lachung and Yumthang only.
Which month is best for a North Sikkim honeymoon
October and November for clear skies and open roads, and late April to May for rhododendrons. December to February brings snow at Lachung, but the Lachen side and Gurudongmar are often closed. Many wedding-season honeymoons fall in late November and February; book Lachung hotels early then. Avoid June to August, when landslides close roads and permits are often paused.
Can foreign national couples do this trip
Mostly. With a Sikkim Restricted Area Permit and the North Sikkim permit through an approved operator, foreign couples can usually visit Lachen, Thangu, Lachung and Yumthang. Foreign nationals are not allowed at Gurudongmar, so day 3 turns at Thangu. Zero Point rules for foreigners vary. A mixed Indian and foreign couple follows the foreign rules. Check current status before you travel.
Will our phones work in Lachen and Lachung
Partly. BSNL and some private networks work in Lachen and Lachung villages, but signal is patchy and data can be slow. Between Thangu and Gurudongmar and above Yumthang there is usually no signal. Tell family you may be offline for a day, download maps and music in Gangtok, and carry a power bank, since power cuts happen.
Is a private car really needed for a honeymoon
We think so. A group package puts you in a shared Bolero or Xylo with up to eight or ten others on a fixed schedule, and the timing is set by the slowest group member. A private car lets you leave Yumthang when you want, stop for photos and sleep in on day 4. On budget we share the car with one other couple to keep the cost down.
