The West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation's lodge on Deolo, Kalimpong's highest hill at 1,704 m, next to the park and the paragliding take-off. A small government lodge with big views over the town, the Teesta and, on clear days, the snows.

Deolo Tourist Lodge sits beside the landscaped park on top of Deolo Hill, a few kilometres above Kalimpong town and close to Dr. Graham's Homes. Rooms are simple and government-standard, and the lodge is small, so it fills on weekends and holidays. What you pay for is the position: early morning views across the Relli and Teesta valleys toward West Sikkim, and a quiet hilltop once the day-trippers leave in the evening.

We use it for budget travellers who want a view without paying for a heritage hotel. Food comes from the lodge kitchen and the snack stalls by the park in the day. You will need a car or a shared taxi to reach the bazaar, as it is a steep climb on foot. Book through the WBTDC website or its offices in Kolkata and Siliguri. Tariffs are set by the corporation and change from time to time; check current rates when you book.

Why we like it

  • Top of Deolo, the highest point in Kalimpong
  • Government tariff for a view-facing room
  • Quiet after the park closes in the evening

Watch out for

You need transport for the bazaar and restaurants, and day-trippers and paragliding crowds make midday busy outside the lodge.

Questions people ask

Good to know

How far is Deolo Tourist Lodge from Kalimpong market

It is a few kilometres above town, about 15–20 minutes by car from the main market and Haat Bazaar. Shared taxis run on the Deolo road in the daytime but are infrequent; most guests use a reserved taxi, around ₹200–400 each way, indicative for 2026. Walking up is possible but steep, about an hour.

Can you see Kanchenjunga from Deolo Tourist Lodge

On clear mornings, yes. From Deolo you look across the Relli and Teesta valleys toward the snow peaks of West Sikkim and Kanchenjunga. Views are most reliable from October to December and in early spring. From May to September clouds usually hide the range. Step out at dawn for the best chance.

Is paragliding available near Deolo Tourist Lodge

Yes. Tandem paragliding flights take off from the Deolo hilltop near the lodge, run by licensed private operators, usually from October to May in good weather. Flights cost about ₹2,500–4,000 depending on duration, indicative for 2026. They stop in rain and strong wind. Check the operator's safety gear and insurance before you fly.
