A ridge walk from Singhik to Mangan

Singhik and Mangan are about 4 km apart on the North Sikkim Highway. Walking from Singhik down to Mangan after sunrise is an easy way to see village life: children going to school, farmers carrying loads, prayer flags and small shrines, and terraces dropping steeply towards the Teesta.
Most of the way follows the highway, so walk facing traffic and keep to the side. Ask locals about footpath shortcuts between bends; they will often point you down steps between houses. In winter the orange trees around Singhik and Mangan carry fruit, and sellers set up by the road.
Finish in the Mangan bazaar with tea and a snack, then take a shared jeep or taxi back if you are staying at Singhik. It is a simple, free morning that shows you a side of North Sikkim most tourists drive straight past.
