Between Mangan and Chungthang the Naga waterfall comes down beside the highway. It is a regular photo halt on the way to Lachung or Lachen. Stop briefly and stay off the road.

North Sikkim's highway is lined with waterfalls, and the Naga waterfall, between Mangan and Chungthang, is one of the best known. It drops in stages down a steep rock face close to the road. After the monsoon, in September and October, it is loud and full; by late winter it can shrink to a thin stream.

Drivers usually pull over briefly for photos. The space is limited, and trucks and army vehicles use the road, so step well back from the edge and keep children by the hand. Spray makes the rocks slippery; do not climb them.

This stretch of road is also prone to landslides, especially in the monsoon. If your driver does not want to stop, there will be a reason. You will pass many more waterfalls on the way up.
