Walk down to Changey Falls

Changey Falls lies between Lava and Kolakham, about 4 km from the village and roughly 10 km from Lava. From the last point a car can reach, a trail of about 900 m leads down through forest to the base. The falls come down a steep cliff in several stages, with the full height hidden by trees, so each bend in the path reveals a new section.
Water is highest in late September and October, after the rains. By spring the flow drops but the walk is drier and pleasant, with flowers along the path. In the monsoon the trail is slippery and leeches are common, and the access road can be blocked, so we avoid it then.
The way back is uphill, about 20–30 minutes at a steady pace. Wear shoes with grip and keep children close near the pool and rocks, which are slippery. There may be a small charge collected locally for upkeep. Do not swim or climb on the rocks near the falls.

Late September to November is best: the falls are full after the monsoon and skies are clearing. March to May is pleasant and drier, with less water. Avoid July and August, when the trail is slippery, leeches are common and landslides can block the road. Mornings are quieter and better for photographs.
