Salugara Monastery and its 100-foot stupa

Salugara is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery on the northern edge of the city, on the road to Sevoke. Its tall white stupa, about 100 feet high with a gilded spire, can be seen from Sevoke Road, and the compound around it has prayer wheels and a small temple hall. Walk around the stupa clockwise, as is the custom, and spin the wheels with your right hand.
Visitors are welcome in daylight hours. Dress modestly, take off your shoes before entering any shrine room, and ask before photographing monks or ceremonies. There is no entry fee; a small offering in the donation box is fine if you wish. It is a pleasant place to sit for half an hour in the late afternoon when the light is soft and the traffic noise drops.
Combine it with an evening at ISKCON's large temple on the city's north side, or keep going on Sevoke Road to the Coronation Bridge and the Sevokeshwari Kali temple at Sevoke, 22 km from the city. An auto or app cab from Hill Cart Road to Salugara costs ₹150–300 each way, indicative 2026.
