A first-night food walk on Hill Cart Road

Start near the Tenzing Norgay terminus, where small Tibetan and Nepali kitchens sell steamed or fried momos, thukpa and chowmein at ₹60–150 a plate. Ask for the red chilli sauce on the side; it is hotter than it looks. Many of these places close by 9 p.m., so go early, and pick the busy ones with a quick turnover.
For a proper meal, a Bengali 'hotel' near Bidhan Market or along Hill Cart Road will serve rice, dal, a vegetable, fish curry and chutney as a thali for ₹150–300, with river fish such as rohu or bata and, in season, hilsa at a higher price. Marwari sweet shops sell kachori and samosa in the morning and sweets all day, and in the evenings litti-chokha carts appear near the markets.
Finish on Sevoke Road, where newer cafés and bakeries stay open later. Buy a packet of Darjeeling tea here only from a proper shop with sealed, dated packs; the loose 'first flush' in plastic bags at the bus stand is rarely what it claims. If you arrive late and tired, every mid-range hotel on Hill Cart Road has a restaurant, and the Courtyard and Sinclairs serve until late.

Good to know
What food is Siliguri known for
Siliguri is known for momos and thukpa from the hills, Bengali fish thalis, and the Marwari and Bihari snacks of a trading city: kachori, samosa, litti-chokha and sweets. It is not a fine-dining city, but a good meal costs ₹150–300. In the Dooars beyond, look out for Rajbanshi dishes made with dried fish and greens.
Is street food in Siliguri safe
Busy stalls with high turnover are generally fine; food cooked fresh in front of you is the safest. Drink only bottled or filtered water, skip raw salads at roadside stalls and avoid cut fruit that has been standing in the sun. If you have a sensitive stomach, eat at a sit-down Bengali hotel or your own hotel for the first night.
Where can I eat near NJP station late at night
The station approach and the Hill Cart Road stretch just north of NJP have small hotels and dhabas that serve rice, roti, egg curry and chowmein until about 10 or 11 p.m. Inside the station there are food stalls and a refreshment room. Very late, your best option is a hotel restaurant or ordering in through a food app.
