A small certified 3-star hotel at Lobesa, on the slope between Chimi Lhakhang and the Punakha valley, with around a dozen rooms and balconies over the rice fields. Good value for a two-night Punakha stay.

Hotel Lobesa is a small, three-star hotel at Lobesa, the junction where the road from Thimphu splits towards Punakha and Wangdue. It has about 13 rooms, most with balconies looking over the terraced fields and the valley. Its size keeps it quiet and the staff attentive. The restaurant serves Bhutanese dishes, Indian food on request and simple Continental options.

The location suits a Punakha itinerary well. Chimi Lhakhang is a short drive and a 20-minute field walk away, Punakha Dzong is about 20–25 minutes by car, and Wangdue Phodrang is close for the drive to Phobjikha. Because Punakha is low and warm, rooms are comfortable in winter without heavy heating. It is a sensible budget choice for couples and small families.

Why we like it

  • Balcony rooms over the Punakha rice terraces
  • Close to Chimi Lhakhang and the Wangdue road
  • Small and quiet

Watch out for

With only about 13 rooms it fills early in festival weeks and cannot take large groups together.
