Alpine flowers around Thangu

Summer at Thangu is brief. Snow melts from the meadows in May, and from late May to July small, bright flowers appear among the grass and stones: primulas in pinks and purples, yellow and blue poppies in some years, and many cushion plants that hug the ground against the wind.
You do not need to trek. Walk slowly for 15–20 minutes from the road onto the meadows near Thangu, look down and you will find them. A small macro lens or phone close-up mode is all you need. Do not pick or dig plants; many are slow-growing and protected.
The problem is access. June and July are monsoon months, and landslides below Lachen often close the road. If flowers are your main interest, plan for early June, build in spare days and accept that the trip may be cancelled. Check current status before you travel.
