Lunch at a Chungthang dhaba

By the time you reach Chungthang you have been on the road for 4–5 hours. The town's dhabas and small restaurants serve the drivers and army personnel who pass through all day, so the food is fast, hot and cheap: rice, dal, a vegetable or two, sometimes egg or chicken curry, and plates of momos or thukpa.
Expect ₹150–300 for a full meal, indicative, 2026. Group packages from Gangtok usually include dinner and breakfast at the hotel but not lunch on the first day, so this is where you eat. Order something light if you are heading to Lachen and Gurudongmar next morning.
Pay in cash; UPI works only when the signal does. Use the toilets here, as there are few good ones between Chungthang and Lachen or Lachung. Be back at the vehicle on time: drivers want to cover the last stretch in daylight.
