Suntalekhola and its hanging bridge

Suntalekhola is a small forest settlement where the 'orange stream' comes down from the hills to meet the Murti. The suspension footbridge across it is the main sight: a narrow walkway on steel cables, with views up the wooded valley and down to the clear water. It sways as you walk, which children enjoy and some adults do not.
Around the bridge, paths follow the stream and lead into the forest edge. Birds are good here: barbets, laughingthrushes, sunbirds and, in winter, redstarts on the rocks. The West Bengal Forest Development Corporation runs a nature resort in the trees, and a few homestays are nearby.
Cross the bridge a few people at a time and do not jump on it. Forest trails beyond the immediate area lead towards Neora Valley and need permission and a guide. Bring a light jacket; it is cooler and shadier here than Samsing.
