Good to know
Is January a good time to visit Dooars and the Terai?
January is cool and dry, with thick fog until 9 a.m. on many days and bright afternoons. Grassland is still tall, so rhinos can be hard to see on some routes, but birding is at its peak: migrant ducks on the Teesta at Gajoldoba, and forest birds at Buxa and Chapramari. Nights in forest lodges are cold, so pack a warm layer. After New Year week, crowds thin and rooms are easy.

Lataguri 9–23 °C, dry, foggy mornings. Conditions differ by altitude and coast, so check the forecast for each stop a week before you travel.
