Medla watchtower by bullock cart
Medla is a forest camp on the Murti side of Gorumara, run with a local eco-development committee. Vehicles drop you at the camp, and from there wooden bullock carts carry visitors along a forest track to the Medla watchtower. The ride takes ten to fifteen minutes and is a large part of the fun. The cart drivers are local men, and the money from tickets supports village committees.
The tower stands above the Murti river with open grassland and forest beyond. Gaur and elephants come out in the late afternoon, and rhinos are seen here regularly. Kingfishers and egrets work the river below. After the slot, many visits end with a short folk dance programme by local performers at the camp.
Book Medla as a separate slot online or at the Lataguri counter, and arrange a forest jeep or car to the camp. Morning and afternoon slots both work; the afternoon is warmer and more popular with families. Keep voices down on the cart and the tower. Check current status before you travel.

Good to know
What is the Medla watchtower in Gorumara
Medla is a watchtower on the Murti side of Gorumara, reached by a bullock-cart ride from Medla camp. It overlooks the Murti river and grassland where gaur, elephants and rhinos often come out. The camp is run with a local committee, and a folk dance programme is often included. Book through the forest department.
Is the Medla bullock cart ride safe for children
Yes, for most children over three or four. The carts are slow and the track is short, though bumpy. Keep small children seated on an adult's lap and hold on. Avoid it if anyone in your group has back problems. It is calmer than an open jeep.
How do I book Medla watchtower
Medla slots are sold by the forest department, online through its booking portal and at the Gorumara counter in Lataguri. You also need a vehicle to the camp, either a forest jeep or your own car where allowed. Book weekend slots in advance. Check current status before you travel.
