Mangan and Singhik to Dzongu
Your options
Ways to make the journey
30 min–1.5 h
The easiest way. Your Dzongu homestay sends a car to meet you in the Mangan bazaar, with your permit ready. Distances depend on the village: Passingdang, Lingthem and Hee Gyathang are at different heights and distances on narrow roads.
30 min–1.5 h
Local jeeps run between Mangan and Dzongu villages, mainly in the morning and afternoon for residents. You can use them if your permit is ready, but timings are irregular and they fill quickly. Ask your hosts which jeep to take.
3–4 h
If you are coming straight from Gangtok, a reserved car can take you through Mangan into Dzongu. Make sure the driver knows the village and that your permit will be checked at the post after the bridge.

Questions people ask
Good to know
How do I get from Mangan to Dzongu
Cross the Teesta by the Sanklang bridge and continue to your village, usually 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Most visitors are picked up by their homestay in Mangan for about ₹1,000–2,000, indicative, 2026. Local shared jeeps also run at irregular times.
Where is the Dzongu permit checked
At the police check-post on the Dzongu side, a few kilometres after crossing from the Mangan side. Without a valid permit you will be turned back. Permits are usually arranged in advance by your homestay through the district office in Mangan.
Is the Sanklang bridge open
The Sanklang bridge was rebuilt by the Border Roads Organisation and reopened in 2025, restoring the link into Dzongu. Heavy vehicles have also been routed through Sanklang, Sapho and Shipgyer when the main highway was damaged. Check current status before you travel.
Can I visit Dzongu as a day trip from Mangan
It is possible with a permit and a car, but it misses the point of Dzongu, which is staying with a Lepcha family. If time is short, one night in a homestay is far better than a day trip. Two or three nights are ideal.
