Your options

Ways to make the journey

Package vehicle
1 h each way

Every Lachung package includes the Yumthang morning in the same vehicle that brought you from Gangtok. Cars leave about 5.30–6 am and return by 10–11 am. Ask for short stops in the rhododendron forest in spring.

Reserved car
1 h each way

With a private car you set the departure time and number of stops. For birding or photography, leave at first light and drive slowly through the sanctuary. You cannot hire a separate local taxi for Yumthang unless it is on your permit.

Zero Point extension
+2–3 h

From Yumthang you can continue to Zero Point if the road is open and your permit covers it. Decide at Yumthang after checking the sky and how everyone feels. Pay the driver on the morning, not in advance.
