Sunrise over Kanchenjunga from the ridge

Ramdhura faces north-west across the Teesta valley toward the Kanchenjunga range, roughly 90–100 km away as the crow flies. On a clear morning the peaks first turn pale pink, then orange and gold, while the valley below is still in shadow and often filled with a white sea of cloud. The show lasts 20–30 minutes from first light to full sun. Bring a camera with a zoom lens if you have one; the peaks look small to the eye from this distance.
Most homestays have a terrace or a bench with the view, so you do not need to walk anywhere. If yours does not, ask your host for the nearest open point on the ridge; it is usually a few minutes' walk. Sunrise in November is around 5.45 am, and in April about 5.15 am, so wake 30 minutes earlier and check the sky.
Clear views are most likely from October to December and on many winter mornings. From March, haze builds and clouds rise by mid-morning. In the monsoon the peaks are hidden for weeks. If the first morning is cloudy, that is a good reason for a second night: the odds of at least one clear dawn rise a lot. On a cloudy dawn, the sea of cloud filling the Teesta valley below is often a fine sight in its own right.

Questions people ask
Good to know
Can you see Kanchenjunga from Ramdhura
Yes, on clear days. Ramdhura looks north-west across the Teesta to the Kanchenjunga range, and the view is best at sunrise from October to April, especially in November and December. In spring, haze often softens it by mid-morning, and in the monsoon the peaks are usually hidden. Stay two nights for a better chance.
What time is sunrise in Ramdhura
Sunrise is roughly 4.50–5.10 am in May and June, around 5.45 am in October and November, and about 6.15–6.20 am in December and January. Be outside 20–30 minutes before, as the peaks catch the light first. Ask your homestay to wake you and keep tea ready.
Is Ramdhura better than Deolo for mountain views
Both can give fine views of Kanchenjunga. Deolo in Kalimpong is higher and more open but busier, with a park and visitors. Ramdhura is quieter and lets you watch from your homestay without travelling at dawn. If you stay in Ramdhura, you do not need to drive to Deolo for sunrise.
