Ways to make the journey
1–1.25 h
Shared jeeps link Ravangla and Namchi through the day, more often in the morning. They leave from the Ravangla jeep stand near the market and arrive at Namchi's central stand. Short, cheap and simple, this is a good leg to try shared transport if you have not before.
1 h
With your own car you can stop at Temi Tea Garden on a short detour, or at Damthang for the start of the Tendong walk. Many visitors hire a car for the whole day: Ravangla in the morning, Temi at noon, Samdruptse and Char Dham in the afternoon, and Namchi by evening.
1.25–1.5 h
SNT buses run between Namchi and Ravangla on some routes and days. They are the cheapest option and easy with luggage. Ask at the bus stand for the day's timings and check current status before you travel. Buses are roomier than jeeps and good for older travellers with bags.

Questions people ask
Good to know
How far is Namchi from Ravangla
About 27 km, roughly an hour by car or a little longer by shared jeep. The road runs through Damthang, below Tendong hill. It is one of the shorter and easier drives in Sikkim, and you can add Temi Tea Garden as a detour without making the day too long.
How much is a shared jeep from Ravangla to Namchi
Around ₹80–120 a seat, indicative for 2026. Jeeps leave from the stand near Ravangla market, more often in the morning. A reserved car for the same run is about ₹1,500–2,200. Check current status before you travel, as fares are revised from time to time.
Can I visit Temi Tea Garden between Ravangla and Namchi
Yes, with a reserved car. Temi is about 16–20 km from each town, so a loop Ravangla–Temi–Namchi adds roughly an hour of driving. Walk the estate, buy tea near the factory and continue to Namchi for Samdruptse and Char Dham in the afternoon.
Is Ravangla or Namchi a better base
Ravangla is cooler, quieter and closer to the Buddha Park and Ralang; Namchi is a busier district town with more shops, banks and transport, and is nearer the Samdruptse and Char Dham statues. Families often prefer Ravangla for the evenings and do Namchi as a day trip.
