Pelling to Ravangla

Your options

Ways to make the journey

Reserved car
2–2.5 h

The easiest option, and the one most packages use. You drop to the Rangeet at Legship, where the Kirateshwar Mahadev Temple sits by the river, then climb through Kewzing's cardamom slopes to Ravangla. With a car you can stop at Ralang Monastery before checking in and still reach the Buddha Park for evening light.

Shared jeep
3–3.5 h with a change

There are few direct jeeps. Go down to Gyalshing, take a jeep towards Legship or Ravangla, and change at Legship if needed. Morning departures are the most reliable. It is cheap and perfectly workable for light travellers, but allow most of the day. Keep small notes ready for each leg.

SNT bus
3–4 h

Some SNT buses on the Gyalshing–Gangtok and Gyalshing–Namchi runs pass through Ravangla. Timings are limited and change, so ask at the Gyalshing bus stand the day before and check current status before you travel. Good for budget travellers with time. Carry snacks and water, since stops are short.

Worth a stop

  1. Gyalshing
  2. Legship and the Kirateshwar Mahadev Temple
  3. Rangeet river bridge
  4. Kewzing
  5. Ralang Monastery (detour)
Leave Pelling after an early view of the range and you will reach Ravangla in time for lunch and the Buddha Park in the afternoon.

Good to know

How far is Ravangla from Pelling

About 50 km by road, which takes 2 to 2.5 hours via Gyalshing, Legship and Kewzing. The drive drops from about 2,150 m at Pelling to the Rangeet river near Legship and climbs back to about 2,100 m at Ravangla. In the monsoon allow extra time for slides near Legship.

What is there to see between Pelling and Ravangla

The Kirateshwar Mahadev Temple on the Rangeet at Legship, where Hindu tradition says Shiva appeared to Arjuna as a hunter; the cardamom and maize villages of Kewzing; and Ralang Monastery, a short detour before Ravangla. All three fit into a relaxed transfer day with a reserved car.

Is a shared jeep from Pelling to Ravangla easy

It works but takes planning. Direct jeeps are rare, so most people go Pelling to Gyalshing, Gyalshing to Legship, then Legship to Ravangla, spending about ₹150–250 in total, indicative. Start in the morning, because afternoon jeeps thin out. Check current status before you travel.

Should I stay in Ravangla or do it as a day trip from Pelling

Stay a night if you can. The return drive is 4–5 hours, which leaves little time for the Buddha Park and Ralang. A night in Ravangla gives you the evening at the park, a dawn view of the range and an easy run on to Namchi or Gangtok next day.
