Ramitey Dara and the bends of the Teesta

Ramitey Dara is a high point near Sillery Gaon, reached by a short drive on a rough road and a walk to the top. Dara means ridge or hilltop in Nepali, and from this one the land drops steeply to the Teesta valley. The river is seen far below, swinging from side to side between the hills of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim. Local guides say you can count 14 turns on a clear day.
Behind the river, the Kanchenjunga range and the ridges of Sikkim line the horizon on clear mornings. The best light is from sunrise to about 9 am; after that, cloud often rises from the valley, especially from March onwards. In October and November, after the monsoon, the views are sharpest and the valley is still green. Binoculars help you pick out villages and roads on the far slopes, and the bridges along the river far below.
The road to Ramitey Dara is narrow and bumpy, so a local car arranged by your homestay is easiest, about ₹500–1,000 for the trip, indicative for 2026. Fit walkers can go on foot with a guide. Carry water and a warm layer; the ridge is windy. There are no shops or toilets at the top. If you are short of time, combine the viewpoint with the walk to Icchey Gaon on the same morning.
