Walk the roughly 3.5 km path around Mirik's Sumendu Lake, cross the footbridge, and take a rowing boat out for 20–30 minutes. Early mornings are calm and clear; late afternoons are quiet once day-trip groups leave.

Sumendu Lake is about 1.25 km long, with a paved path of roughly 3.5 km around it. Start from the Krishnanagar side, where the hotels and food stalls are, and walk anticlockwise. The far shore is lined with tall cryptomeria pines and is shaded and quiet. The footbridge near the middle, often called the Rainbow Bridge, gives the view on most Mirik postcards.

Rowing boats and pedal boats wait near the bridge. A 20–30 minute ride costs about ₹200–400 a boat, indicative 2026. Pony owners offer rides along part of the path, around ₹200–400. Agree the price and the time before you start, and ask children to wear the life jackets provided.

Come at 6 am if you can. The water is still, the mist lifts off the pines, and on clear mornings the Kangchenjunga range shows above the far ridge. By 11 am tour groups arrive from Darjeeling and Siliguri, and the lake is busy until about 4 pm. After that, it is calm again, and the stalls start frying momos for the evening.

How long is the walk around Mirik Lake

About 3.5 km, which takes 45–75 minutes at an easy pace with photo stops. The path is mostly flat and paved, so it suits families and older travellers. Start from the Krishnanagar side and cross the footbridge to make a full loop.

How much does boating in Mirik Lake cost

Rowing and pedal boats cost about ₹200–400 for 20–30 minutes, indicative 2026, depending on the boat and the season. Prices are often per boat, not per person. Agree the time and price first, and make sure everyone wears a life jacket.

On clear mornings, yes. The Kangchenjunga range shows over the ridge from points around the lake and from Bokar Monastery above. The best chances are October to December and March to April, in the first two hours after sunrise.
